According to reports, Facebook is working on allowing users to cross-message between Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The idea is to allow people who might use only one of Facebook’s properties to be able to communicate with others within Facebook’s ecosystem meaning a Facebook user could communicate directly with someone who only has a WhatsApp account or an Instagram account.
By allowing these messaging apps to communicate across platforms, Facebook is hoping to get people using this as their primary messaging service and overthrow the likes of Telegram and iMessage.
In a statement, Facebook said, “We want to build the best messaging experiences we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable and private,”
“We’re working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks,” it added.
