How to get rid of bed bug in a Nigerian home

What are Beg Bugs?
Bed bugs are insects that feed on human blood, usually at night. Bed bug bites may lead to skin changes ranging from small areas of redness to prominent blisters.

How to identify Bed Bug Infenstation
If you wake up with itchy areas you didn’t have when you went to sleep, you may have bedbugs, particularly if you got a used bed or other used furniture around the time the bites started. Other signs that you have bedbugs include:

Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls
Bedbug fecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bedbugs hide
An offensive, musty odor from the bugs’ scent glands
If you suspect an infestation, remove all bedding and check it carefully for signs of the bugs or their excrement. Remove the dust cover over the bottom of the box springs and examine the seams in the wood framing. Peel back the fabric where it is stapled to the wood frame.

Where do Bed Bugs Hide?

Bedbugs may enter your home undetected through luggage, clothing, used beds and couches, the edge of the carpet and other items. Their flattened bodies make it possible for them to fit into tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card. Bedbugs do not have nests like ants or bees, but tend to live in groups in hiding places. Their initial hiding places are typically in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards where they have easy access to people to bite in the night.

How to prevent bed bug from infesting your home
To prevent bringing home bed bugs, travelers are advised to take precautions after visiting an infested site: generally, these include checking shoes on leaving the site, changing clothes outside the house before entering, and putting the used clothes in a clothes dryer outside the house. When visiting a new lodging, it is advised to check the bed before taking suitcases into the sleeping area, and putting the suitcase on a raised stand to make bedbugs less likely to crawl in. An extreme measure would be putting the suitcase in the tub. Clothes should be hung up or left in the suitcase, and never left on the floor. Additional preventative measures include sealing cracks and crevices (which are often the sites of bed bug harborages), inspecting furniture, and for exposed travelers to decontaminate clothes and luggage upon returning home. The founder of a company dedicated to bedbug extermination said that 5% of hotel rooms he books into were infested. He advised people never to sit down on public transport; check office chairs, plane seats, and hotel mattresses; and monitor and vacuum home beds once a month.

How to get rid of bed bug in a Nigerian home
First you have to be sure that it is only your house that is infested. If you live in face me I face you kind of setting where you share doors with the next room then you are toast. There is no end to it, because if you succeed in eradicating it from your home later it will creep in through the openings from the neighbours into yours.

If you don’t live in face me I face you, but in a situation where by you share walls and not doors then you have to follow this instructions.

1. Buy what we call “ota pia pia” I don’t know where you stay and what they call it there.

2. Get a syringe. Do the following every three days for one week then every 7 days for three months:

Drop the ota pia pia with the help of the syringe around the door frames from top to bottom. Along the seam of your mattress both top and bottoms. Around the edges of your bed, where there is joints on your bed, cushion and wardrobe.

Also along the seem of the cushion and any other places you think they might be hiding preferably where there is wooden joints. You can mostly find them on the bed and chairs.

Don’t forget edges of tables infact on all your furnitures.

Even when you don’t see them keep doing it for a while so as to kill the eggs or new hatchling. It is hard work getting rid of bed bugs.

One important thing clean your house properly and throw away items that you don’t have use for to declutter your house. Nothing beats a clean clutter free home.

NOTE: Don’t be tricked with not seeing them after like a week. The adult may have been dead but they lay eggs everywhere that are yet to mature.

ALSO:- please be careful with the ota pia pia it is poisonous and can kill human. Keep it away from food sources and from children. Use it during the day and allow proper ventilation for the smell.
