An 18-year-old model from Kano state Shatu Garko has been crowned the 44th Miss Nigeria last night beating 17 others to become the first hijab-wearing model to wear the Miss Nigeria crown.

18-year-old Hijabi Model, Shatu Garko Crowned 44th Miss NigeriaGarko loves riding horses and is passionate about proving religion and culture are not barriers to following one’s dreams and achieving whatever a person sets out to achieve.

She was also the youngest contestant on the show taking over from Etsanyi Tukura, a native of Taraba State, 43rd winner of the 2019 Miss Nigeria contest.

Shatu was awarded the cash prize of N10 million, a luxury apartment, a car, and ambassadorship for several brands.

The win by the Hijabi model has become a defining moment in Nigeria’s mainstream pageantry and according to the 18-year-old, her win is proof that all dreams are valid.
