Oni Isaac Oluwatoyosi, popularly known as Icemamo, has shed light on the challenges of pursuing a music career in Nigeria. The Osun indigene reflected on the struggles faced by aspiring musicians in the country, citing the example of the late Mohbad, whose life was tragically cut short despite his determination.

“To be very honest, when I heard about Mohbad’s struggles, especially with his family background, it resonated with me. Many of us face similar family battles in silence, but I found
solace in expressing myself through music,” Icemamo shared.

He expressed admiration for those who have made a mark in the industry and remained relevant over time. “My mentor, who taught me beat production, may not be a musician himself, but he always encouraged me to share my story through music. People like Mohbad, Zlatan Ibile, Olamide Baddo, Burna Boy, and others have truly made a difference,” he added.

As a storytelling Afropop artist and rapper, Icemamo emphasized the importance of singing about relatable experiences. “I focus on narrating life circumstances that people can connect
with. Whether it’s my own life or the experiences of those around me, I aim to tell stories through my music,” he explained.

Despite his talent, Icemamo humbly admitted that he has yet to perform live but eagerly anticipates the opportunity. “I’m really drawn to live music, and I can’t wait for the day I get to perform live,” he expressed. Currently, Icemamo is working on his upcoming project titled “DADDY’s girl,” which chronicles his journey as a father and the promises he has made to his daughter through his music.

Discussing his creative process, Icemamo revealed that he meticulously writes his songs, unlike impulsive singers who rely solely on inspiration in the studio. “I jot down ideas as they come to
mind and then mentally rehearse them to ensure they resonate with listeners. I’m always open to making revisions to enhance the quality of my music,” he shared.
