As the country continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the commissioner for health in Lagos said in the month of August that there will be a likely increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the state

According to The Nation, Abayomi speaking at a press briefing at the Bagaulto Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa on Thursday, July 23, noted that this is based on postulations.

The commissioner went on to add that hopefully the curve flattens after the likely peak in coronavirus infections.

“Based on postulations, COVID-19 cases are like to peak next month; we are hoping it peaks soon and the curve eventually gets flattened,” he said.

Recall that back in June, the Lagos state government attributed the spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state to the increased testing capacity.

The Lagos commissioner for health made the statement in a press briefing in Ikeja. He disclosed that the state will run out of bed spaces at isolation centres if it keeps recording high numbers of COVID-19 cases.

He said tests results have shown that COVID-19 is spreading within the communities in Lagos.
