Black Panther has won the top film award at the 25th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, and that surely is expected to place the movie in strong contention for an Oscars win this February.

The cast of the superhero mega-hit won for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a motion picture at the 2019 SAG Awards.

In another category, Black Panther beat A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians and BlacKkKlansman to receive the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

The best female actor awards for film went to Glenn Close for The Wife and Rami Malek for his performance as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The host for last night event was Megan Mullally.
